Description:
Ambitious plans for a redevelopment of the square was cancelled in January 2013, after an international design contest, following public feedback.
Now a more modest plan of replacing the red tarmac and establishing more grassy areas has been implemented. The statues also remain on the square.
A second phase will follow after the Commonwealth Games in 2014. The overall budget for the project is £15m, with £500,000 for the initial work to be carried out before the games.

Complete.
