A derelict eyesore next to the Forth and Clyde canal has been transformed into a tourist attraction in a £1.8million revamp. Three Queens Square, on the south bank of the canal near Clydebank town centre, was neglected for years before the upgrade began in March last year.
The improvements, which have dramatically improved the
appearance of Clydebank shopping area, include moving the historic
bandstand closer to the canal to make more space and kitting it out
with lighting and sound equipment.
The square is now fit to be used as a modern public space and will
host artistic productions and markets.
Two new pontoons have also been built to encourage boat users to
visit the town centre.
The development was funded by the Scottish Government's Town
Centre Regeneration Fund and managed on behalf of West
Dunbartonshire Council by Clydebank Rebuilt.
As well as new stone work and tree planting, public art has been
integrated into the improvements.
The south bank now adds to the award- winning regeneration of the
north bank of the canal which was upgraded four years ago.
