Description:
Important improvements to the Clydeside Expressway
(A814) have been put in place to create access to the Glasgow
Harbour development and improve the local road
network. Pedestrians, cyclists and drivers throughout this
part of the city will all feel the benefits.
The Clydeside Expressway is an important route, connecting the
north and west of the city with the city centre, and also linking
to the motorway network and the Clyde Tunnel. Whilst the
Expressway is currently very busy, traffic numbers are predicted to
increase considerably over the coming years.
The road works improve the existing road network by creating a
new system which addresses the congestion which currently occurs at
Hayburn junction and the Ferry Road roundabout, and which improves
the overall flow of traffic in this area. Two new footbridges
are on place - one links Glasgow Harbour with Partick
across the Expressway and the other is a bridge across the
Kelvin.
The end result is stronger links between the
communities of Glasgow Harbour, Partick and the West
End, making the waterfront, public space and facilities at
Glasgow Harbour more easily accessible. The improvements also
bring the train, bus and subway services at Partick into easy
walking distance for the people who live in, work at and visit
Glasgow Harbour.
Glasgow
Harbour is a 130-acre, high-quality mixed-use development on
the west end of Glasgow waterfront. It is one of the flagship
projects of the Clyde waterfront regeneration. The regeneration
of this extensive brownfield site, at an estimated cost of
£1.2 billion has hugely beneficial economic, tourist and
social implications for both Glasgow and Scotland as a whole.
