Location:

Greater Govan & Glasgow Harbour, Govan

Description:

Scottish Enterprise is assisting BAE Systems Surface Ships to bring a derelict and neglected part of their Govan/Scotstoun facility in Glasgow into more productive operational use.  Scottish Enterprise's contribution of £1.995m towards a £10m investment in the Govan shipyard aims to improve competitiveness and position to business for the future.

The works include the creation of a new East Quay to an area of around 1,150m2.  The works also include the creation of a new Transfer Quay area  and the development of a new external hard-standing.

The SE funding is additional to the investment of around £8m the company requires to make in its facilities to fulfil the Future Aircraft Carrier (CVF) order.

BAE Systems Surface Ships is a leader in the design, manufacture, integration and support of naval ships, delivering complex engineering, integration and through-life support across the lifecycle of a vessel. BVT Surface Fleet (BVT) was established in early 2008, and renamed as BAE Systems Surface Ships in 2009. It brings together the surface warship building and through-life support operations of BAE Systems and VT Group, including their joint venture, Fleet Support Limited. The company is a world-class industrial partner for the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) and a leader in the global export market for warships and innovative naval surface ship support.

With operations in Glasgow, Portsmouth and Filton near Bristol, it employs over 7,000 people and has the facilities, skills and partnerships to set the global standard in excellence as a trusted and innovative through-life surface warship partner in both the UK and export markets.
