Description:
The £5.1 million Queens Gate Housing project provides
the first "eco-friendly" homes in Clydebank. This landmark building
with its curved facade and high quality external appearance is also
the first social housing in Clydebank for 5 years.
The 40 one and two bedroom apartments for social rent for
Clydebank Housing Association at Cart Street were officially opened
by the Culture Minister Michael Russell MSP on 31st August
2009.
The project was managed by Clydebank re-built and is sited on a
one - acre vacant site, previously owned by West Dunbartonshire
Council.
All the homes have been designed to a top "very good"
eco-rating, with high insulation, energy efficient fittings and
heating, low CO2 emissions, waste recycling facilities, sustainable
sourced building materials and customised glazed balconies.
At the Glasgow Institute of Architects 2009 Design Awards,
Queens Gate was recognised with the top design award for housing.
Chair of the panel of judges, Martin McKay said " This gentle
curving block deals with a challenging site with elegant
simplicity.
Elder and Cannon, architects have also been nominated for a
Scottish Design Award for their work on the project.
Construction started on site December 2008.
Completed September 2009.
