Contracts stay local for Costa drive-thru

Steel and glazing contracts have been awarded to local companies as Scotland's first drive-thru Costa takes shape at Lomondgate.

Local engineering company, Archibald McAulay, has been awarded the steel contract for the construction of Scotland's first drive-thru Costa Coffee at Lomondgate.

One of Scotland's oldest structural engineering companies, the company won the £45,000 contract in a tendering process by contractor, Marshall Construction.

Erection of the main steel works for the Costa Coffee outlet has recently been completed and the drive-thru is due to open for business before Christmas.

Harry McAulay, Director of the family business based in Bankhead Road, Dumbarton, said, "Of course, it's always terrific to win business but it's an added touch to be part of such a large development on your doorstep, especially when we've been part of this community for over 70 years."

Another West Dunbartonshire company Clydebank based glaziers, AGS, has also been awarded the glazing contract for the building.

David Hastings, Chief Executive of Strathleven Regeneration, development partner for Lomondgate alongside Walker Group added, "The Walker Group's development of the Costa drive-thru is fast taking shape and the steel work was erected in the space of only a few days.

"When Costa Coffee opens to the public it will generate a real buzz locally as well as creating 20 new jobs. It's a real bonus that West Dunbartonshire businesses are involved in the construction process."

The £100m Lomondgate project was launched in 2007 by Strathleven Regeneration C.I.C. (SRC) a public-private partnership established with the support of West Dunbartonshire Council, Scottish Enterprise and Diageo.   SRC formed a partnership with developer Walker Group to  deliver its plans for a mixed use development on the site.
