CASS Senior Manager, Financial Services, BDO

The hottest topic in our sector right now is .... market focussed investment and growth. This means investment in people, technology and premises, which we are also seeing with our clients. Specifically, our presence and investment in financial services in Scotland.  It's a very exciting time for BDO as we move to new premises in Glasgow and have just opened our Edinburgh office after a refurb.

Thinking about our organisation's corporate social responsibility projects …. BDO do a lot of great work on the social mobility front. This is a cause that is close to my heart due to my upbringing. I grew up in a council house in a single parent family and I was the first in my family to go to university. I think it is really important that everyone gets a fair chance in life to fulfil their potential.

Financial services is a great career choice because .... it is a high growth industry, every day is different and there is an amazing opportunity to undertake a variety of interesting roles, find your niche and specialise as your career progresses.

The most important career advice I would give to my younger self is .... don't be nervous to embrace change, grasp every opportunity presented to you.

The three best things about working in Glasgow are .... the people - such a friendly city, everyone is always willing to help each other.

The culture - great museums, music venues and cultural diversity across the city

Location - Glasgow is the perfect place to work, I have a short commute into the city each day and the city is so central, you're always just a short trip away from a beach or the countryside.

My favourite part of Glasgow is .... the food scene - from cafes and bakeries to top class restaurants, the Glasgow food scene has really grown over the past few years.

Outside of work, I am passionate about…. my family. They are my greatest achievement and my top priority.

My best tip to achieve a better work/life balance is …. to set boundaries and communicate them clearly. Everyone understands that sometimes it is way too easy when working from home to let that work creep into your own personal time. If I know it's going to be a busy week, I try and pick one day where I definitely leave work on time and I know I have that night to spend with my kids.

Favourite boxset? Scandal

Favourite author? I love the classics - George Orwell

Favourite holiday destination? Scotland. As much as I love a trip to the sun, there is so many amazing places right here on our doorstep.
