Improvements to Tradeston Bridge and the public realm at
Tradeston will be funded by £1.2m from the Glasgow City Region
City Deal and Barclays will provide a further £1m.
A key element of the work agreed by
Glasgow City Council is refurbishment of the bridge's fabric,
to be completed ahead of the opening of the Barclays Glasgow Campus
in late 2021. There will also be improvements to the public realm
on the south bank at Tradeston and enhanced feature lighting at
three nearby railway underpasses, to promote safe, legible routes
for pedestrians, cyclists and wheelers between local neighbourhoods
and transport nodes. This will encourage active travel to and from
the emerging Barclays Campus.
The new work will complement the development of the 3.7 hectares
waterfront site at Tradeston, where
Drum Property Group is creating a major mixed-use development
on seven blocks featuring 'Grade A' office space, flats, a mix
of local amenities and landscaped public spaces.
Barclays will host its flagship state-of-the-art global campus
on 500,000 square feet of offices in this development,
accommodating up to 5,000 people; making the bank one of the city's
biggest commercial employers, as it doubles its existing headcount
in Glasgow.
