The given project brief is: 'A business unit has become available
in four areas of the Clyde; Glasgow Harbour, Govan, Clydebank and
Renfrew. Develop an idea for a local business.' In small groups
pupils will be given one of these areas, they will have to gather
information on the demographic of the residents and the local area.
From this they will develop a business idea to cater for the local
market. They will produce a plan, logo, name, concept, advertising
materials, client profile and present these at a 'Dragon's Den'
style finale. Business is to be locally based. Learners will
have a choice of Clyde areas and a choice of communities as
customers.
Broad Outcomes of learning
• Learners have an understanding of what community services are
need to support homes and residents
• Learners have experienced working in teams to come up with a
creative plan and pitch. They will have negotiated, compromised and
produced a singular group idea
• Groups will have had the opportunity to develop communication,
planning, problem solving, persuasive and presenting
skills
• Confidence of working independently from teacher-led lessons will
be demonstrated by individual commitment to a group decision, group
idea and group pitch
• Pupils take responsibility for their learning through making
collective decisions on all aspects of the task including research,
business idea, marketing strategy and pitch
• Learners have developed enterprising skills identified as 4
capacities of CfE
